Best Leading Actress 2010

5. Jennifer Lawrence - Winter´s bone
This is a prototype of a drab performance in a drab film. I didn't actually like the film and nor did I enjoy Lawrence's performance. She did nothing in Winter's bone. Being just sad is too little for a nomination. It's a fact that she is very talented and as a young actress in a debut she gave a wonderful performance, but in comparing with the other nominated it's not enough...

4. Nicole Kidman - Rabbit hole
Great performance of a great actress. She has some great scenes and she is very believable. She plays a mother whose son dies and she is trying to live the life again and find another meaning of her life. We don't have any doubts about what she went through. We believe her everything. The only blame I have is that you will probably not remember her performance for a long time, but nor you will remember the whole film...

3. Anette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
I'll be as daring, as I'll say that the role in The Kids Are All Right is Bening's performance of a lifetime. She was funny, charming and sad at once. This is a kind of a performance I like very much. In the scene in Ruffalo's character's house where she sings and even in the scene after coming home, she shows us a real terrific piece of acting...

2. Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine
Not very known film, but with the great performances of the two leading actors. Without Gosling (who deserved a nomination, too) and Williams it would not be as realistic and great, as it is. Williams plays her character very realisticly and she wonderfully changes into it. She gave everything into her role and I'm glad that the Academy didn't ignore her and gave her a nominee...

1. Natalie Portman - Black swan
It was very difficult to choose between Portman and Williams, but finally I go with Natalie. She was terrific and she is one of the reasons that the film is unforgettable. She was excellent, but I think that everyone who likes films and awards has seen it, so I do not have to talk about it very much...

My Nominees:
1. Natalie Portman - Black swan
2. Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine
3. Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right
4. Anette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
5. Nicole Kidman - Rabbit hole

Best Leading Actor 2003

5. Jude Law - Cold Mountain
Law is not actually bad in Cold Mountain. His performance is very good, but too drab, I could maybe say that dull. He gets very overshadowed by Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger and even by the film itself. He has some better scenes mostly in the beginning and at the end, but the middle he's just too normal to be Oscar-nominated. Law is very good actor and when he tries he can be wonderful. And even though this is one of his better performances, but he had just too many rivals...

4. Ben Kingsley - House of Sand and Fog
The same case as Law was. He was too drab and dull. Actually I have seen Kingsley playing greatly only once (Shutter Island) and his other performances (I've seen) were just good. I really want to see Gandhi to persuade myself that he can play wonderfully (he won an Oscar for it). His character here is not very affirmative and maybe he wanted to play it as he did, but I didn't really like it very much...

3. Sean Penn - Mystic River
Very good performance. Maybe sometimes overacting, but most of the time very effective and convincing. His character is an experienced man with memories and experiences full of sadness. It's a typical Oscar role and the Academy love it, so no wonders that he won. But I like more untypical and not clishe performances. Penn is a wonderful actor and it was reflexed in his performances...

2. Bill Murray - Lost in translation
Very surprising performance. Murray is a comedian and I would never thought that he would play as greatly, as he played. Wonderfully played and showed character. This is a kind of performance which should be shown to the actors-beginners to know how to play...

1. Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl
An iconic legendary performance of a great actor. His Jack Sparrow is one of the best characters ever played and written and his creation of it is just unforgettable and impossible to repeat. He is funny and entertaining and he even makes Pirates of the Caribbean something more, than just a summer blockbuster. Every film fan should see this fabulous performance...

My Nominees:
1. Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
2. Ewan McGregor - Big fish
3. Russell Crowe - Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World
4. Bill Murray - Lost in translation
5. Sean Penn - 21 grams

Best Supporting Actor 2001

5. Ben Kingsley - Sexy Beast
Not very good performance in a not very good film. Kingsley is just overacting every minute, he´s on the screen. He plays a villain - a living cu*t - and he never plays it as a man, as a person, who lives. The film is shot from the Ray Liotta´s charater´s sight, so Ben Kingsley´s character is just bad. But if the film would be shot from Kingsley´s character´s sight, Ray Liotta´s character would be bad. Kingsley never realises this. Even a villain thinks, that what he does, is good. He would tell you the reason of his activities. But Kingsley doesn´t play it like that. In his hands his character is just overacted figure with no character...

4. Jon Voight - Ali
Jon Voight plays a reporter Howard Cossell. He doesn´t play it badly, but the film doesn´t even give him a chance to play something. He´s in the film, just because it´s based on a true story, but he actually doesn´t have a chance to show his talent. Most of the time, he´s on the screen, he´s just speaking, whats happening in the ring. His performance is a little bit dull, but it´s not his guilt. His character is dully written and so played, but Voight did the best, he could do...

3. Ethan Hawke - Training Day
I don´t actually understand, why is he supporting, but it doesn´t matter. His performance was very good, but he was a little bit overshadowed by Denzel Washington. Hawke´s acting is not really a character acting, he´s good in every situation, but not broadly. Training Day isn´t actually a film with some message or theme. It´s just well done action thriller, made because of money. And Hawke´s performance is great for this genre. But, unfortunately, nothing more...

2. Sir Ian McKellen - The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring
Who wouldn´t know Sir Ian McKellen´s performance as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings? And who wouldn´t love it? He was great and the fact is, that he was the only Oscar-nominated actor from the whole trilogy for the role from the whole trilogy. And he was actually the only one deserving. As Gandalf he is authoritative and good old wizard and we can believe him, that he is. Great performance given by a great legend...

 1. Jim Broadbent - Iris

Wonderful performance of a careful husband of Iris Murdoch. Jim Broadbent is one of the best actors and he proofs it in this film, too. He actually deserved a nominee even for his role in Moulin Rouge!, but it´s not important. His scenes with Judi Dench are just wonderful. They are quiet ordinary, bur still wonderful and that´s just because of them. This is actually a type of a film, in which great performances are very important. And, fortunately, Iris is full of them, Broadbent including. I just don´t understand, why is he supporting, but he´s excellent, anyway...

My Nominees:
1. Alan Rickman - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
2. Jim Broadbent - Iris
3. Ian McKellen - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
4. Ian Holm - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
5. Robbie Coltrane - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
